Wilson Vale is committed to providing training for all roles and believes that everyone has the potential to grow and astound themselves.

We view training, development and mentoring as vital to the success of the business and we are committed to providing training at all levels. Your training journey is important to us, and as well as compulsory training we can identify additional training needs by having a conversation with you and your manager, understanding what will help you in your role and ambitions.

Throughout the catering industry nurturing talent to develop the next generation has always been a challenge.  To recruit at any level is often difficult and when you find superstars you want to keep them. We recognise that at Wilson Vale we have discovered a lot of talent in our teams. Our strength in our unique approach is in growing our own talent as well as attracting new talent into the business.

Compulsory Training

As part of your role you will be required to complete a number of compulsory courses. We complete these online and it covers a wide variety of subjects dependent upon your role. Typically, if you are working with food you will need to complete Food Safety, Health and Safety, Allergens, Slips, Trips and Falls and Manual Handling. All employees will complete Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training. Managers will also complete a number of other courses that relate to their role.

All Managers and Head Office employees are required to comply with our Business Conduct Policy (BCP) and FPCA and to complete an annual attestation of compliance.

Craft Works

Our ethos is very much a ‘back-to-the-floor’ approach. All of our Area Managers and Operations Directors are chefs in their own right and one of our founding principles is to work alongside individuals to upskill, train and coach immediately transferrable skills that can be used at site.

Wilson Vale’s unique in-house craft training programme is available for all employees at all levels. The programme is based on various job roles within the Company and is practically based so that you can apply the learning directly to your role at the site you are working at. You can train for the role you are in or the role you aspire to progress to next. You will learn from the best by training alongside talented chefs and colleagues in their field. This enables you to enhance your skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Whilst we are able to offer apprenticeships, some employees may feel that is not the right route they wish to choose. You may only want to enhance one aspect of your role and so an apprenticeship is not the best fit for you. Modules are assessed by our trained in-house assessors. On completion you will receive a certificate to say you have passed.

By the end of your Craft Works training, you will have gained knowledge, confidence, and skills applicable to the day-to-day tasks at your site. We cannot guarantee progression by promotion, though Craft Works training can be included on your Curriculum Vitae (CV) as part of your development to support your progression.

If you are interested then contact your manager, a senior manager or our Training Manager for more information.

Apprenticeships

We can also offer apprenticeships in line with nominated local Colleges, using a nationally recognised framework. This will be completed in house and will require Maths and English to be completed as part of the programme. If you are interested, please contact a senior manager or our Training Manager.

Further Training

We are keen for employees to further their education with courses that are relevant to their role. Please speak to a senior manager in the first instance and have details of the course you wish to attend. In certain cases the Company may pay for part, or all of, the fees relating to the course. This is entirely at the discretion of the Directors and may be subject to signing an agreement and agreeing to certain terms and conditions.

Job Opportunities

We actively encourage progression and are keen to promote the right candidate from people who already work for us. We advertise all vacancies on our website. If you are interested in any vacancy, please submit your Curriculum Vitae (CV) using the link provided. All suitable candidates will follow a recruitment procedure which would involve and interview and possibly a trade test to establish the best candidate for the role. Our selection criteria are based on competence for the role and suitability for the site. If you would like to discuss your career progression within the company, then please talk to a senior manager.
